I love getting the time to play around with new make-up products because it allows me to get my creativity juices flowing. At the Deise Bloggers event, we received a couple of bits and bobs from the sponsors to try out and that’s exactly what I did last weekend. You may have seen the two selfies I posted on my Facebook and Instagram last Saturday and Sunday, but if you haven’t keep reading to find out what they turned out like, what I used and how I like to accentuate different parts of my face.
Personally, I don’t like vibrant, colourful looks on myself (I envy those who can pull them off), but I find that a pop of colour in an area that you’re looking to draw attention to suits my personal style. My favourite feature would have to be my eyes; they are big, bright blue and I’ve got naturally long, curly eyelashes. My least favourite feature would have to be my lips; they are not symmetrical, my top lip is tiny and my bottom lip is huge. Although one is my favourite and the other is my least favourite, I always tend to add colour to accentuate one or the other for different make-up looks, which you can see in the pictures below.
I created both looks on the same day, only changing my eyeliner and lips to show how easy and quickly it is to change up a look. The only reason my hair is different in these pictures is because I still have no idea what to do with it now that it’s growing and it wasn’t cooperating.
In this look, I decided that I wanted to draw attention to my lips and done so by using the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the colour Addis Ababa. I was super hesitant about trying this product just because I’m not a lover of the colour pink, especially not on my lips but boy, was I surprised! The pink colour on the packaging is extremely vibrant but once applied to the lips, it seems a little toned down. Some people may be unhappy because of that, but I was thrilled and loved the colour on my lips. I also loved the texture of the product on my lips because as a matte lip cream, I expected it to be somewhat drying but honestly, it’s quite moisturising. This is more than likely because of the cream formula but I was pleasantly surprised!
I’ve also come away from using black eyeliner on my waterline after a number of years, and either keep my waterline liner free or use a nude or white liner instead to open up and give an illusion of bigger eyes. The Essence Gel Waterproof Eye Pencil in Cloudy White did just that and although the main focus is on my lips, you can definitely see the subtle illusion of bigger eyes.
This second look is most definitely well within my comfort zone. It’s very me! In our goody bags, I was shocked to see a turquoise eyeliner pencil from Wet ‘n’ Wild because to be honest, I haven’t worn turquoise/blue eyeliner since 2007. Oh, those were the days of blue eyeshadow, blue eyeliner and no eyebrows. Oh. My. God. Once I applied the eyeliner to my eyes, I instantly remembered why I genuinely loved wearing blue on my eyes. Having bright blue eyes, then accentuating them with the turquoise on my waterline, they just popped! This liner is definitely going to be a staple in my make-up bag for the future. I’m bringing 2007 back, ladies!
I also changed my lip colour to two of my usual products which I didn’t receive at the Deise Bloggers event; Sleek Matte Me Lipstick in Birthday Suit and Penneys P.S. I Love You Lip Liner in Brown. I love using this lip combo on a daily basis for work, or when I’m doing a dramatic eye look.
In the next couple of days, there will be a review on both the Sleek Dancing Til Dusk Palette and the Art Deco Most Wanted Warm Palette so, keep an eye out for those. Spoiler Alert: you’ll want to get your hands on them ASAP!
Thanks for reading and let me know what you thought of the above looks or if you’ve tried any of the products.
Until next time…
